The birthday presents would get opened anyway. No conspiracy is needed. Either the person who got the present is curious and opens it or it gets sold and the buyer opens it. Only the collector of unopened birthday presents would have a series of presents from year 1 to 7 just sitting in storage. Some of you are collectors of unopened presents, right?

Most likely they don't want the GW1 servers used anymore. Easy way to help? Have terrible events and presents from now on.

Well think about it, they can't spend the resources on GW1 for making new gifts every year. I understand this but.. if they were going to stop making new gifts I wish they would have said awhile back... I was kind of hoping for a new series of gifts for my older chars. By not telling the community whats going on it was a let down during the celebration.

Yeah, it's really just a mind game on their part and I kind of picturing them laughing at us freaking out about it. It would have been completely reasonable to just come out and say it beforehand, "Sorry guys, with GW2 we just don't have the resources to completely designed new birthday rewards but you WILL receive a gift some sort of significant reward." If I didn't have so much fun with GW2 this weekend, I'd probably be a lot more upset about the treatment we received.
And before any trolls start crying "Oh boo hoo, you didn't get something in a SEVEN year old game...."; I just want to point out that I'm just complaining about the lack of communication not the lack of reward. I'm fine with them abandoning this game, I just think it would have been a nice courtesy to the longest time players to let us know about it instead of mind-!@#$'ing us.

This would be acceptable if the circumstance was April Fool's Day or any other international holiday of such.
But it's not, it's an annual event. If numerous developers say the same statement in an unobjectionable manner, I'll take their word for it.
So please don't be so detrimental to ANet's name.
I, much like everyone else here, is genuinely intrigued on just what could be lurking in the presents.
Whether it be false, true or undetermined.
I'd like to see this thread go back to what it's intended for; Confirmed replies.
Thanks.

When ANet gives you miniatures, don’t make a miniature parade. Make ANet take the miniatures back. Get mad! I don’t want your damn miniatures! What the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see ANet’s manager! Make ANet rue the day it thought it could give The Hero of Tyria miniatures! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down—with the miniatures! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible miniature that burns your house down!

Mr. Stumme also said that there are minis that haven't previously been in the presents. That doesn't mean they aren't recycled minis, they just weren't from birthdays. That means that there wouldn't be new minis. No one has found anything new in the .dat files. That means they are rare pets already available in the game, just not previously as birthday gift drops.

We're wanting to know what they are.
We're aware they're preexisting miniature's, just not which.
That's our inquisition.

And when was the last time ANet told us what rare items could come out of a Strongbox/Gift/Present before we found it out ourselves?

and when was the last time it took almost a week to find out what was in a new present or strongbox?
Usually when the presents are released, we see the green minis come out on day 1. Same with strongboxes and the winds of change minis.
So unless these other minis, whatever they may be, have a .0000001% chance of dropping and we only see one drop every few weeks then I'm of the mind they will only be old birthday minis.
I think perhaps John Stumme unintentionally misinformed us and perhaps worded his statement incorrectly. Sometimes we take things at face value when it may have just been meant as an offhand remark. That's the only way I can justify this to myself.
OR, as has been said before, Anet may need to update the presents at some point and perhaps got carried away for the GW2 open beta and someone forgot to push a button for the GW1 presents lol.

Ok, so either the ones we don't know about are more rare than a normal green mini and/or the people getting them would rather sell them than report them to the rest of us. I don't see a need for this to mean that something is wrong.
How many players have 7 year old characters and are still actively playing? How many characters turned 7 during the GW2 BWE? How many are AFK on the nine rings and planning to check back in next weekend? How many are holding on to unopened presents until they see all possible results? How many who find a rare mini will report it instead of just selling it quietly? What percentage of those getting minis this week even check forums?
There are plenty of factors here to let me to suspect that it's the forums/wiki not finding it yet rather than Anet doing it wrong. I'm personally going to relax, enjoy my M.O.X., and wait and see what turns up. I suppose everyone should feel free to panic, but I won't be joining in.

Since there's no sudden influx of Asian minis, it would seem that they're probably not the answer. You'd think there would be one or two new ones for sale by someone other than the usual suspects.
Best guess is that Stumme was wrong. Second-best guess is that they're lower-value limited minis, and the few people that have opened them simply don't realize that they've never come out of birthday gifts or don't hang out here.

I'm leaning more towards mis-informed. By now the wiki page would have been updated, some one would be trying to sell them either here, auctions or kamadan...or someone would have heard of someone trying to sell them and told 2 friends.....
its not like it hasnt happened before (misinformation).

There are also people like myself who are holding onto our 7th year gifts to see if we can get an actual confirmation of something else dropping out of them before we open them. I will probably open it up eventually, but given my luck with gifts, don't expect anything special.

If they are releasing the ultra-rare minis, they wouldn't want to flood the market with them. That truly would be a slap in the face to those who spent a fortune to get theirs. But if the drop rate is similar to that of mpb, or even a ghostly hero? Remember how long it was from the time the ghostly was introduced to the time one first popped?
In my opinion, the lack of any other pets showing up to date is a reason to believe (added to JS's comments) that the asian minis will pop in time.

imo 7th year bday presents are going to have the lowest rate of being opened/received simply because of the lack of players now compared to previous years..but then they decide to make it stack-able ?? smells like anets cooking something up for the finale and maybe thats when well see the non-bday pets

Doesn't seem like something Anet would be too concerned about seeing what they did with previous mini's and tonics

A slap in the face? Good one Mountain. Unless the devs themselves have stake in Asian mini's, they wouldn't care. We have a laundry list of things that, as a community, we wanted them to address. They didn't. Rare mini owners are a relatively small lot.
The problem here is that Strumme is toying with you guys. He could say that there is a .000000000001% chance of specific asian rares or destroyers, gray giants, ceratadons, etc. But he leaves everyone hanging. Open them and see lol.
They want them all opened so that that the vast majority of year 7 reissues will go to people who need them for homs. Then they will be more likely to choose gw2 over d3. Wish they would have made things easier for those of us who grinded and paid top ecto for our titles. They aren't doing us any favors. Shrinking down existing things takes very little effort. This is pure marketing genius.
Open and trash all cheap minis. Screw the 5k bs.
